Facebook Advertising: The Easy Start (Level 1)

Welcome to the first article in our three-part series on Facebook Advertising. Many business owners find paid social media confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. This first level covers the easiest entry point – Boosting a Facebook Post. It’s a simple, fast way to reach more people and see real results without complex setup.

What is Boosting a Facebook Post?

Boosting a post is the most direct way to advertise on Facebook. You pay to show a regular post to more people — beyond your current followers. The post appears as a Sponsored message in their feeds and can reach new, local customers who might never have seen your Page.

Boosting a post is not the same as running a full campaign through Facebook Ads Manager. It’s simpler and best for quick goals such as:

  • Getting more likes, comments, and shares
  • Driving more clicks to your website
  • Promoting a sale, event, or new product

Why Boost a Post?

Boosting a post works well for short-term results and local awareness. Dealers use it to:

  • Reach a wider audience: Expand visibility beyond your Page followers.
  • Drive engagement: Encourage more likes, shares, and comments.
  • Increase awareness: Highlight seasonal sales, featured sheds, or promotions

Keep setup easy: Start boosting directly from your Page in just a few clicks.

Before You Boost: Be Active on Facebook

If you’re not posting regularly yet, focus here first. Facebook rewards active Pages.

Post 2–3 times per week for at least six weeks before spending money on ads. Use clear photos of your lot, customer stories, new arrivals, and the BarnDealer Posting Tool (easiest and “bare minimum”).

How to Boost a Post

  1. Select Your Post:
On your Business’s Facebook Page choose a recent post (within the last few months) that already performs well. Look for content with solid likes, shares, or comments.
  2. Click “Boost Post”:
You’ll find this blue button under your post on your Facebook Page
  3. Define Your Goal:
Select a goal such as “Get more engagement” (better if you have a page launched recently) or “Get more messages”. These goals are clear and easy for beginners.
  4. Define Your Audience:
Keep your targeting simple. Start by adjusting location only to match your delivery area. Facebook learns and adjusts over time.
  5. Set Your Budget and Duration:
Choose how much to spend and how long to run the boost. Facebook estimates how many people you’ll reach
BarnDealer Recommendation: Begin with $5-$10 per day for 7 days. Once you gain confidence start to increase the amount then work toward increasing the length of time.
  6. Review and Boost:
Double-check your settings, add payment info, and click “Boost Post Now.”

The 72 Hour Rule:

Don’t make any adjustments to your post or boost settings for at least 3 full days after boosting!

The 72-Hour Rule

After launching, don’t make any changes for at least three days. Facebook needs time to learn which users respond best. Editing too soon resets that ‘learning period’. Be patient – results improve after the algorithm gathers data.

  • Review Results and Start Over: Once you have run your first “Boost Campaign” look over the results. Tweak ONE THING (eg. the type of post, the text on the post, the building on the post, or the audience, etc.) and try that one for a week. You will begin to see trends that work in your area and will be able to start making posts that are effective for your target audience!
    • Our next article will focus more on testing and what adjustments to make when you boost on Facebook

PRO TIP:

 Test, Tweak, Repeat.

That’s the simple rhythm of effective digital marketing. Every boost is a chance to learn what works best for your lot.
